Landmines are indiscriminate weapons that wait underground for years and sometimes decades maiming and killing children, farmers and everyday citizens who happen upon them. \u201cLEND\u00a0YOUR\u00a0LEG\u201d Remangate \u201cRoll-up\u201d Campaign began when people were asked to roll-up their pant\u00a0leg\u00a0to draw attention to the landmine problem in Colombia and show solidarity with the victims.<\/strong><\/p>\n

APRIL 4th, International Day of Mine Awareness, Lend Your Leg!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u00a0\u201cLend\u00a0Your\u00a0Leg\u201d turned into a country-wide phenomenon. The campaign was hugely successful. WVCBL\/PSALM joins the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and the\u00a0Lend\u00a0Your\u00a0Leg\u00a0Campaign to \u201cLend\u00a0Your\u00a0Leg\u00a0for a Mine Free World\u201d, and show solidarity with all survivors of landmines and\u00a0other explosive remnants of war.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, April 1st<\/sup>, PSALM students will host a LEND YOUR\u00a0LEG\u00a0SOLIDARITY<\/b>\u00a0DAY\u00a0at school.<\/b>\u00a0YOU are invited to join us and roll up one pant leg, wear some cool socks and symbolically \u201cstand\u201d in solidarity with the victims and survivors of landmines.\u00a0 PSALM students want to dedicate this solidarity day to \u201dthe most vulnerable\u2026children\u201d.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

APRIL 4TH: INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MINE AWARENESS<\/strong><\/p>\n

December 2005, the General Assembly declared<\/a>\u00a0that April 4TH of each year shall be observed as the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It called for continued efforts by States, with the assistance of the United Nations and relevant organizations, to foster the establishment and development of national mine-action capacities in countries where mines and explosive remnants of war constitute a serious threat to the safety, health and lives of the civilian population, or an impediment to social and economic development at the national and local levels.<\/strong><\/p>\n
