THE ROAD TO OTTAWA ART EXHIBIT BY PSALM<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Join PSALM ( Proud Students Against Land Mines) as they present their art installation, “THE\u00a0ROAD\u00a0TO\u00a0OTTAWA: THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MINE BAN TREATY” at the Monongalia Arts Center, Morgantown, West Virginia, USA, February\u00a02nd-February 29th, 2018.<\/strong><\/h5>\n
Opening Reception will be held February 2nd, 5:30-7:30 pm.\u00a0<\/strong>PSALM artworks are inspired by the countries that “made it happen” and the continuing work\u00a0to\u00a0“finish the job” of a landmine-free world. Students will\u00a0 act as hosts and guides for the visitors at the opening reception on February 2nd, 2018.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h5>\n

In\u00a0 December 1997,\u00a0<\/b>122 nations met in\u00a0Ottawa, Canada\u00a0to\u00a0<\/b>sign the Mine Ban Treaty<\/b>.\u00a0 PSALM students have dedicated paintings\u00a0to\u00a0the countries that “made it happen”.\u00a0<\/b>The\u00a0 Mine Ban Treaty, also known as the\u00a0Ottawa\u00a0Treaty, is a legally binding international agreement that bans the use, production, stockpiling and transfer of antipersonnel mines and places obligations on countries\u00a0to\u00a0clear affected\u00a0areas, assist victims and destroy stockpiles.<\/b>The adoption of the treaty was a milestone start\u00a0to\u00a0an end of suffering caused by landmines.\u00a0To\u00a0date, the Mine Ban Treaty has been at the heart of many achievements.<\/b>More than 80 per cent of the world\u2019s countries outlawed landmines by joining the treaty.\u00a0<\/b>Landmine trade is virtually eliminated.\u00a0 Twenty-seven (27) countries finished clearing and destroying landmines. More than fifty-one (51) million stockpiled landmines have been destroyed. New landmine casualties have been dramatically reduced\u00a0 and the rights of landmine victims have been increasingly recognized<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
